Runco LJRII

LJRII Super Laser Disc Player
The World's First THX® Certified Laser Disc Player
"... it is rare that we see a new product that could be considered as a landmark or milepost. The Runco LJR II is such a product."
This is an extraordinary LD player. It seems to do everything absolutely right, and delivers a picture like I have never before seen from laserdisc."
- J. Gordon Holt
Stereophile Guide to Home Theater

The LJR II Offers three audio options for the ultimate in versatility. All three options include a Dolby ™ AC-3 RF output for compatibility with the 5.1 channel digital audio soundtracks.

The LRJ II full-function wireless remote includes a jog/shuttle control and operational ease of all major functions including a myriad of special effects. The remote can also be supplied to operate as a "wired" controller.

The Runco LJR II is the world's first laser disc player to be THX certified by Lucasfilm Ltd. This is your assurance that it meets the highest standards of performance and quality.

RUNCO'S acknowledged leadership in video technology has been widely acclaimed. Continuing this leadership role Runco has developed the LRJ II Laser Disc Player.
Early on, Runco recognized the significance of the Lucasfilm Ltd. THX division and the impeccable standards they had developed for their Home THX Audio Program and THX Laser Disc Program.
The THX Home Program was designed to truly bring the excellence of the THX theater experience into the home without compromise. Working closely with THX engineers, Runco set out to create a laser disc player which would meet the exacting demands of a new set of video standards developed by Lucasfilm.
These new THX video standards represent the performance levels necessary to bring quality video imagery into the home which compliments established THX audio requirements.
Beginning with the proven and highly regarded Runco LJR I platform, modifications were made to achieve the important improvements needed to earn THX certification. Then styling was applied to give this machine a new visual elegance. Finally, the THX logo was applied with pride, signifying the new horizons which Runco has reached with the LRJ II.
Each LRJ II is hand built and individually calibrated. Every unit undergoes an extensive quality control process to assure the highest performance levels and eliminate unit to unit variations.
This full featured auto reverse machine incorporates state-of-the-art digital technology in every important operational parameter. Time-base correction/velocity compensation, noise reduction, field memory, servo control and Y/C separation are among the critical areas where this advanced engineering has been applied.
Runco didn't overlook the audio section, either. Three custom audio options (see back cover) are available to meet the exacting needs of any installation requirement. The audio performance of the LRJ II easily exceeds that of any other laser disc player. The sound has been compared favorably to several high-end CD players!
And the LRJ II is the world's first laser disc player to provide a Dolby™ AC-3 RF output. This makes the LRJ II compatible with new laser discs recorded with Dolby AC-3 5.1 digital audio soundtracks. As this new technology comes on line, the LJR II is fully equipped to handle it.
The Runco LRJ II brings Hollywood home. Once again, the ultimate in home theater performance just got a little more ultimate.

Basic Transport:High quality digital audio is provided in the S/PDIFF format with a gold-plated RCA connector, as well as TOSLINK. An external digital to analog converter must be used. Analog tracks are output through conventional RCA connectors. A high quality Dolby AC-3 RF output is provided with an RCA connector.
Studio Transport: This version provides all of the features of the Basic Transport and offers two additional digital outputs. An AES/EBU professional digital audio output with data reclocking utilizing a phase locked loop is output through an XLR connector. An optical digital output wit an ST connector employs an ATT transmitter for use with 850 nm optical fiber.
D/A Converter: The digital bitstream is output through a TOSLINK connector. Analog audio is output through a gold-plated RCA stereo pair. The RCA connectores provide the analog output from laser discs as well as the output from digital tracks on both LD's and CD's via the internal digital to analog converter. The internal D/A converter is a custom single bit type of advanced design featureing 64 times oversampling. Selection between analog and ditial audio is done with the remote control. A high quality Dolby Ac-3 RF output is provided with an RCA connector. This option is also available with balanced XLR analog output connectors in addition to the RCA stereo pair.
